How Large Can I Print 8K Stock Images?
The 8K stock images on Affordable Stock Images measure 7680 x 4320 pixels. That number is fixed; what changes is how densely you spread those pixels across paper. Choose the density and the print size follows from a single division.
The formula
Pixels divided by dots per inch gives inches. Multiply by 2.54 for centimetres.
- 7680 px ÷ 300 dpi = 25.6 in ≈ 65 cm wide
- 4320 px ÷ 300 dpi = 14.4 in ≈ 36.6 cm tall
So at 300 dpi, the standard for close-up print work such as brochures and magazines, an uncropped 8K image prints at roughly 65 x 36.6 cm. Lower the density and the same file grows:
- At 200 dpi: about 97.5 cm wide, still crisp for posters read at arm's length
- At 150 dpi: about 130 cm wide, comfortable for exhibition boards and large posters
- At 100 dpi: about 195 cm wide, suitable for banners and displays seen from a few metres away
The height scales the same way, keeping the 16:9 proportion, so the 150 dpi print is about 73 cm tall and the 100 dpi print about 110 cm.
Why large prints tolerate lower dpi
Print resolution is a rule about viewing distance, not a fixed law. At 30 cm from the page your eye resolves detail that 300 dpi just satisfies. Step back to two metres and the same eye cannot distinguish 100 dpi from 300; the dots merge long before you notice them. This is why billboards are routinely printed at 20 to 50 dpi and still look sharp from the road. For anything mounted on a wall or hung in a lobby, 100 to 150 dpi from an 8K file is more than most viewers can perceive, and a print shop will often say the same.
The 8K format matters here. Stock images at 4K, 3840 px wide, would halve every figure above. Because the site delivers the full 7680 px file with no watermark, you get the entire budget of pixels to spend.
Common print products from 7680 px
Assuming the long side of the image fills the long side of the product without cropping:
- A4 (29.7 cm): about 657 dpi, far above what paper can show
- A3 (42 cm): about 464 dpi
- A2 (59.4 cm): about 328 dpi, full 300 dpi quality at poster size
- 24 x 36 in poster (91.4 cm): about 213 dpi, sharp at normal poster distance
- Roll-up banner, 200 cm tall used vertically: about 98 dpi for the full-height image, which is standard banner quality viewed from a metre or more
A4 through A2 are effectively overkill; you could crop away half the image and still exceed 300 dpi on A3. The poster and banner sizes are where the full frame starts to earn its pixels.
Cropping reduces pixels
Every crop throws away pixels, and the dpi figures above assume you keep them all. If you cut a 7680 px wide frame down to its central 3840 px to make a squarer composition, you now have a 3840 px image and the same maths applies to the smaller number: 32.5 cm at 300 dpi, 65 cm at 150 dpi. The rule is simple: decide the crop first, then read the remaining pixel width, then divide. Print shops calculate from the file you send, not from the file you started with.
The pixel dimensions of every image are listed on its page, next to the tag chips and the "Download JPG" button, so you can confirm the size before downloading. When you need a specific orientation, searching for a subject word such as skyline and then checking the listed dimensions is faster than downloading and measuring.
